Florida PTA is the largest statewide volunteer organization working exclusively on behalf of children and youth. Founded in 1921 as a branch of the 6 million member National PTA, Florida PTA is made up of approximately 1,400 local units with more than 300,000 Florida members seeking to unite home, school and community for all children.  The PTA at Ada Merritt follows the believe that every child deserves an opportunity to succeed and it is up to the parents and teachers to help them reach their full potential.

A Message from the 2014-2015 PTA President & Executive Committee

On behalf of the Ada Merritt K-8 Center PTA Board, we would like to WELCOME new and returning families. The PTA is a partnership between the parents and teachers to enhance our children’s learning experience.

Your PTA Membership along with great fundraising events such as: The International Food Festival, Kids Take Charge, and a new event –Boosterthon Fun Run, helps to support:

  • Student awards and rewards programs such as: Accelerated Reader, Student of the Month, Perfect Attendance, Honor Roll, and End of Year activities;
  • Assistance for our teachers outfitting their classrooms throughout the school year;
  • Funding teacher grants for educational opportunities and materials;
  • Funding a Miami Dade Police Officer for additional school security;
  • Technology enhancements such as computer labs, and cafeteria speaker system.

As we look to the new school year, we will need your effort in full force, as we support the Technology Bundle, which includes:

  • 25 new laptops for a new computer lab to free up the media center from ongoing testing,
  • Enhanced speaker system for the cafeteria to upgrade our students’ performances, and
  • SmartBoard training to keep up with new technology.


This is a call to the Ada Merritt Family to donate your time, resources, and support the initiatives

for the 2014-2015 School Year.


Mark your calendars for important dates during the first semester of the 2014-2015, school year:

  • August 15, 2013 – Parent/Teacher Meet and Greet
    • 8:45a.m. to 9:30am Kindergarden-3rd grade
    • 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 am 4th – 8th grade
  • August 16 – September 5, 2014 – PTA Membership Drive
  • September 3, 2013 – First PTA Meeting


Our PTA is successful with your participation! We encourage every family to become a member, attend meetings, and continue to make our school the best that it can be! Attached is the membership form.

Please fill out and return during the Meet and Greet, or to your teacher during the first week of school.
